UFC 159: Steven Siler decisions Kurt Holobaugh
NEWARK -- His face bloodied and his opponent's arm wrapped tightly around his neck, featherweight Kurt Holobaugh did not quit.
That he managed to escape such a deep rear naked choke in the first round was impressive. What followed in the second round was equally impressive -- a significant comeback and dominating round at UFC 159 at the Prudential Center.
But it was that third round that made the difference, the one where Siler came back and did what he did in the first round and won a unanimous decision. All three judges scored in 29-28 in favor of Siler (22-10).
Silver dominated the first round on the strength of a piledriver sort of a takedown and the subsequent ground and pound. He was able to get Holobaugh's back later in the round and go for the rear naked choke, but Holobaugh (8-2) did not tap. In the third, Siler controlled the ground game and had another rear naked choke attempt.
