World Series of Fighting gets big NBC Sports deal
The World Series of Fighting, one of the newest MMA promotions, announced Monday a three-year broadcast partnership with NBC Sports Network, one that promises at least six live events per year.
NBC Sports Network is NBC's fairly new 24-hour sports channel. The deal gives them another live event to promote -- and more importantly, the MMA audience to promote to. The network already airs NHL, college sports, boxing, Ironman, boxing, extreme sports and some original programming.
WSOF debuted as a promotion on Nov. 3, 2012, and drew a reported 198,000 viewers for the inaugural card on NBC Sports Network. That number may sound small (it is, especially when reading it the day after the Super Bowl), but it was in line with expectations. And that number was big enough to give WSOF a three-year commitment.
Ryan LaFlare, who trains at Long Island MMA and Bellmore Kickboxing Academy, signed a four-fight deal with WSOF over the weekend, he tweeted. He'll be on the WSOF's next card March 23 in Atlantic City.
