The news of UFC heavyweight Frank Mir fighting Daniel Cormier in a Strikeforce bout later this year is not as big a deal as you might think.

Gone are those days when Strikeforce signing a former UFC champion is big news. That's what happens when the same company owns both fight leagues.

It doesn't signify a major shift in the way Zuffa, parent company to both promotions, will operate....

UFC 152 has a scary start

Headlining a UFC event, be it a pay-per-view or not, can only increase a fighter's profile. Co-main events, as well.

But maybe being on the undercard for UFC 152 in Toronto is a better deal, especially for those fighters suffering from acrophobia (a fear of heights).

Surely there are safer ways to let fans know that tickets go on sale this Friday for the Sept. 22 card than to dangle...

Don't expect mixed martial arts to be an Olympic sport any time soon, no matter what MMA officials and executives say when asked about the topic.

Olympic committees are most concerned with testing blood than seeing it.

However, several of the sports/disciplines that help make up the sport of MMA are Olympic events. And since the 2012 Summer Olympics are about to begin, perhaps there's...

What if Anderson Silva retires?

Let's hope Anderson Silva doesn't retire any time soon. Sure, we want to watch the UFC middleweight champion and the greatest mixed martial artist ever continue to meet and greet his challengers with front leg kicks and precision strikes.

But here's another reason a handful of 185-pounders out there should want Silva, 37, to stick around: validity.

If Silva were to retire, he would bring...

Serving as a technical advisor or fighting consultant is nothing new for athletes to do or for fans to hear about.

Still, it can be interesting to see how a fighter -- in this case, UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre -- takes to the job and how a video editor can piece together the fighter's words and moves with those put into the game.

Any little nugget GSP can be offer was...

This "155 Reasons" series about Frankie Edgar is very well done. Episode 3 hit YouTube on Friday. It's produced by Gaspari Nutrition, but thankfully doesn't hit you over the head with product promotion. In fact, you can barely tell who is behind the series just from watching it.

Baldwin's Chris Weidman, one of the top middleweights in the UFC, has a sit-down with Duke Castiglione this Sunday on Fox 5's Sports Extra.

The show starts at 10:30 p.m. Weidman's segment was pre-recorded, so don't expect any reaction to Saturday night's co-main event at UFC 149 between Hector Lombard and Tim Boetsch.

But, hey, if it's pre-recorded, that means we can get you a sneak...
