A mixed martial arts blog about UFC, Bellator and other MMA promotions and fighters.
Folks speak of the "UFC jitters" when it comes to fighters making their promotional debuts inside the Octagon.
For Lindenhurst native Ryan LaFlare, that may not be the case.
Yes, this Saturday, the undefeated welterweight fights in Sweden on the prelims for UFC on Fuel TV 9. But for a 29-year-old whose previous seven fights were in the regional promotion Ring of Combat, the...Read more »
Michael Bisping has done his share of bashing Long Island's Chris Weidman in the public sphere when there's a camera available.
Well, here's a video where Bisping actually says nice/positive things about Weidman's chances against middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 162 in July.
(Newsday's app users can watch the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIiDBTtQONU)...Read more »
I happened to be looking at Anderson Silva's fight record Tuesday morning for a refresher on his various win streaks.
I've seen that loss -- you know, the one to Ryo Chonan on Dec. 31, 2004 -- before, but every time I see it, I'm amazed. Some times, I think it's a typo. Some times, I wonder why Chonan isn't tweeting every day "I beat Anderson Silva."
And some times, the shock...Read more »
Chael Sonnen has a fight coming up, which means you'll be seeing plenty of outlanding headlines and sound bites from him.
Jon Jones will be the subject of most Sonnen's rants as their UFC 159 title fight in Newark approaches.
Here's the latest from Sonnen, who gets poetic on "UFC Tonight."

Watch and enjoy the Nick Diaz UFC 158 post-fight interview on Fuel TV as he talks about retiring and getting a rematch with Georges St-Pierre in the same interview.
I believe Ariel Helwani asked one question in the first three minutes and didn't need to do much else beyond hold the microphone.

Here you go, folks -- the UFC 158 interviews with Nick Diaz and Georges St-Pierre after Friday's weigh-ins.
A few interesting things to note:
-- Diaz sort of rambles on a bit, but avoids giving juicy quotes for use later on Twitter.
-- Diaz may come across as aloof in the interview, but he actually is processing the questions asked and thinking about his answer.
-- GSP is...Read more »
In a back-and-forth battle that is all words and nothing else between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman, it's the UFC middleweight champion's turn.
On the latest edition of "UFC Tonight," Silva spoke to Fuel TV's Karyn Bryant from his new Muay Thai College. The video is embedded below, but here are the three key points from Silva:
"The people talk, blah, blah, blah, blah."
"He's...Read more »
Long Island's Dennis Bermudez and Oklahoma's Matt Grice put on a thrilling fight Saturday at UFC 157 -- an instant candidate for every "Fight of the Year" Top 10 list that will surface in mid-December.
They each earned Fight of the Night honors and an accompanying $50,000 on top of their show money, and in Bermudez's case, win money, too.
Here's the video of Bermudez and Grice...Read more »
Late to the party on this one a bit, since I passed out on the couch Thursday night. But watching the Bellator fights the following night, I was treated -- like many of you were -- to a fascinating knockout of King Mo Lawal by Emanuel Newton.
Emanuel Newton and his spinning back fist, thrown blindly and landing flush to the face of King Mo, the prohibitive favorite to win the Bellator...Read more »
Michael Bisping never runs short on words to say. And when the UFC middleweight from England uses his words talk about Long Island's Chris Weidman, they're usually not nice ones.
A report surfaced late this week from Brazilian publication Tatame that the UFC is negotiating with Anderson Silva to defend his title against Weidman in July.
When asked Friday about that, Bisping said Weidman...Read more »
