A mixed martial arts blog about UFC, Bellator and other MMA promotions and fighters.
Not long ago, women fighting inside the UFC's octagon seemed like the most far-fetched concept in the male-driven world of mixed martial arts. Heck, the president of the organization even said as much. And there Dana White was on Wednesday, on a conference call, announcing that the UFC would be expanding its women's division to now include strawweights (115 pounds). Invicta FC, an all-female MMA...Read more »
A 90-minute sit-down with UFC co-creator Campbell McLaren will generate quite a few laughs at the table, and a few more when transcribing the quotes from his stories and anecdotes. Not all of them can find their way into the story, even in the world of unlimited space on the Internets. So here are some of the quotes you'll enjoy reading that couldn't find their way into the story on how "There...Read more »
As of Monday, it has been two years and six days since UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz last fought instead the octagon. Knee surgery caused him to miss his title defense against Urijah Faber at UFC 148 (the co-main event with Anderson Silva's rematch against Chael Sonnen). A second knee surgery caused an even longer delay for Cruz. UFC president Dana White said recently that Cruz is training...Read more »
UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz hasn't fought in 710 days. In that time, Renan Barao won the interim bantamweight title once, defended it once and had a second defense canceled once. Barao is now just 11 days away from his second defense -- at UFC 165 in Toronto against Eddie Wineland. On Tuesday's UFC 165 conference call, UFC president Dana White said Cruz is expected to return at the...Read more »
UFC president Dana White spent a few minutes on set at Fox Sports Live on Wednesday night to talk about, what else, the UFC.
After he said Lyoto Machida will drop down to middleweight and fight Tim Kennedy at UFC's Fight for the Troops on Nov. 6 in Kentucky, he snuck in this little nugget.
When he was diagnosed with Meniere's disease, a debilitating ear condition, he received a phone call from Alex Rodriguez. White said A-Rod referred him to a place in Dusseldorf, Germany, that was referred to him by Kobe Bryant.
Watch the clip embedded below. The A-Rod stuff comes in at the 1:45 mark.

UFC president Dana White spent 13 or so minutes this week with Boston.com's "Boston Sports Live." Here's the video, where he talks about coming back to his hometown, Chael Sonnen vs. "Shogun" Rua and more UFC on Fox Sports 1. White calls Sonnen "still the No. 1 contender at 185 pounds."

UFC president Dana White rarely, if ever, minces his words. After UFC on Fox 8 on Saturday night, White had nothing but positive things to say about flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, but welterweight Rory MacDonald did not get the same treatment. MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger went three rounds, with MacDonald winning the decision in a very uneventful fight. Hear what White had to say in the...Read more »
The events of UFC 160 on Saturday night have set into motion affirmative talk of the heavyweight fight most fans wanted in the first place: Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos 3. The two first fought at UFC on Fox 1 in November 2011, with Dos Santos taking Velasquez's title in 64 seconds. Velasquez then took the title back in December 2012 with a five-round classic. With Velasquez stopping Antonio...Read more »
NEWARK -- The man who used to call himself the champion and walk around with a championship belt without actually winning a title fight nearly earned the ability to rightfully call himself "champion." Chael Sonnen was 27 seconds away from winning the light heavyweight title at UFC 159 on Saturday at the Prudential Center. Not necessarily because he was dominating Jon Jones. The fight...Read more »
On a pay-per-view night for the UFC, the viewing experience for fans goes something like: Prelims on FX, main card on pay-per-view, post-fight show on Fuel. Throw in the occasional pre-fight show on Fuel, a "Big" Fox card and you've got fans hitting up multiple networks for what is essentially the same content. It can get confusing. Fox's announcement of the new Fox Sports 1 network,...Read more »
