(Credit: Newsday/Matthew Golub)

Here's a shocker: Rousimar Palhares submitted his opponent, Mike Pierce, by ankle lock at UFC Fight Night in Brazil on Wednesday.

But the question after the fight and again Thursday morning is this: Did Palhares hold the submission move too long after Pierce tapped 31 seconds into the fight?

UFC officials thought so and chose not to award Palhares the $50,000 submission of the night...

These days, such commentary usually winds up on Twitter, lost to many of you in your timelines or -- gasp! -- not even seen by those not on Twitter.

So, here were my thoughts as I watched the second episode of "UFC Primetime" leading up to Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos at UFC 166 on Oct. 19, 2013, in Houston.

As of Monday, it has been two years and six days since UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz last fought instead the octagon.

UFC president Dana White said recently that...

(Credit: AP)

Because there isn’t enough running commentary on the Internet, here’s mine from a viewing of the first episode of "UFC Primetime" with Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos in the build-up to UFC 166 on Oct. 19.

— Still can’t understand how Dos Santos didn’t collapse at some point during the second fight.

— You can never have enough shots of fighters driving in their cars and...

Chris Weidman still not intimidated by Anderson Silva

The fight poster for UFC 168 with Long

His image is on top. His name is listed first. He'll be introduced last.

Still, new UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman would have preferred a different photo be used in the poster for UFC 168 and his rematch against former champ Anderson Silva.

As for the "Leave No Doubt" tagline used on the poster?

"I like that," Weidman said Wednesday at a UFC 168 promotional...
