LAS VEGAS -- As I watch the sun rise up from the mountains in the desert from my hotel room, I'm reminded that it is a new day, which means more time to process all the things seen at UFC 168 several hours ago.
Here are of the thoughts I'm generating at the moment after watching a series of fights that stirred up more than $6.2 million in gate revenue for the UFC:
-- Miesha Tate vs....Read more »
LAS VEGAS -- Some thoughts about what to look for at UFC 168 on Saturday night (besides just the punching and the kicking and the grappling):
-- How does Uriah Hall respond after two losses and that "He's not a fighter" quote by UFC president Dana White from the last time he fought? That should be quite interesting to watch unfold against Chris Leben.
-- Can Miesha Tate push...Read more »
Most people don't use the word "fun" to describe voluntarily walking into a combat session with former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. Of course, Manhattan's Uriah Hall is not like most people.
Hall, a finalist on Season 17 of "The Ultimate Fighter," left Tiger Schulmann's MMA in New Jersey to train with Reign MMA in California for his fight this Saturday...Read more »
Uriah Hall burst onto the scene with a pair on monstrous knockouts on the 17th season of "The Ultimate Fighter" only to fall short in the finale with a somewhat flat performance against Kelvin Gastelum.
Now, the Manhattan-based, Queens-raised, Jamaica-born MMA fighter gets another opportunity to show what he can do inside the octagon when he fights Nick Ring on Aug. 17 in Boston....Read more »
Time for the results of our last Fightin' Words reader poll. As usual, the typical disclaimer: These results are about as scientific as that sock you found under the bed after two years.
Who will have the more successful UFC career?
78% -- Uriah Hall
22% -- Kelvin Gastelum
(Note: This question was posed after Gastelum upset Hall to win Season 17 of "The Ultimate Fighter.")...Read more »

Chael Sonnen talks how he needs to talk when it’s time to talk.
Meaning, if it’s time to hype a fight, he’ll go to town with the commentary, wit and hyperbole needed to sell tickets and pay-per-view. If it’s time to chill, he can be chill.
And if it’s time to build up a fighter’s confidence, Sonnen can do that as well.
Here’s what Sonnen said to Uriah Hall as he prepared to fight...Read more »
Perhaps the best way to explain what Uriah Hall did to Bubba McDaniel in the "The Ultimate Fighter" quarterfinals that aired Tuesday night is to repeat what McDaniel said in the seconds after he got knocked out.
"What's wrong?," McDaniel said. "What's wrong? Huh? What's wrong? Why is my eye -- -- up? My eye hurts."
Hall, who grew up in Queens after emigrating...Read more »
Uriah Hall, deliverer of the most vicious knockout in "Ultimate Fighter" history, continued his narrative of being bullied as a kid on Tuesday night's episode. He mentioned something similar on an earlier episode as well.
He expanded on that during an interview with Newsday in the days leading up the airing of his first fight on "TUF 17." Basically, the reason you saw him...Read more »
Season 17 of "The Ultimate Fighter" kicked off Tuesday night with 14 elimination-round fights. Here are some quick thoughts on each:
Adam Cella vs. Jake Heun
Cella withstood a wild array of punches and kicks from Heun, then held on through the slam and won by armbar submission. Impressive display.
Zak Cummings vs. Nik Fekete
