Carmelo Anthony wasn’t at this morning’s shootaround to talk about the one-game suspension the NBA handed down yesterday for his actions following Monday’s loss to the Celtics.

Anthony will serve the one-game ban tonight when the Knicks face the Pacers. Mike Woodson said it was his decision for Anthony to miss shootaround.

“He really don’t need to be here,” Woodson said. “He’s not playing tonight. We made him stay back and rest. We got a game tomorrow. I decided to make him stay back.”

Anthony will be back for tomorrow’s game when the Knicks play the Bulls. It’s unclear if the Knicks will have Amar’e Stoudemire though.

Stoudemire said “initially back-to-backs were out of the question.” But he said whether he plays tomorrow will depend upon how his surgically repaired left knee feels following tonight’s game.

Woodson was told he had to cut back Stoudemire’s minutes after playing him 28 Monday against Boston. But Stoudemire swears it wasn’t a setback, that they’re just taking precautionary measures since the Knicks are playing three games in four nights.

As for tonight, Woodson wouldn’t divulge who would start in Anthony’s place. It’s a safe bet it will be rookie Chris Copeland.

Woodson was asked his reaction to Anthony’s suspension.

“Hey, that’s their decision and we just got to move on,” Woodson said. “You can’t go back and get it so you got to live for the next day. There’s not a whole lot we can do as an organization. They made the decision and we got to live with it and I’ve got to get these guys ready to play.”
