Freeport's Eddie Gordon wins at CFA 11
Transgender fighter Fallon Fox, a first in MMA, earned most if not all of the headlines leading into and following Friday night's Championship Fighting Alliance card in Coral Gables, Fla.
But earlier on that CFA 11 card was Freeport's Eddie Gordon, a former football player at Fordham.
The Serra-Longo trained fighter earned a second-round submission victory over Oscar Delgado in impressive fashion at a slimmed down catchweight of 190 pounds.
Gordon had been fighting at light heavyweight, but said he wanted to show the UFC that he get to 185 if need be after trying out for Season 17 of "The Ultimate Fighter" before they chose to go with middleweights.
Gordon (6-1) weighed in at 189.5 for Friday night's bout. It was the first submission win in Gordon's career. He won three by decision and two by KO/TKO.
The rear naked choke came 92 seconds into the second round after Gordon went for and completed his first takedown. But, as you'll see in the video linked below, it was throwdown than takedown. Gordon scooped up Delgado and threw him to the mat, did a little ground and pound and then got back control for the submission.
