Mimicking Anderson Silva?
Part of the problem fighters face when preparing for Anderson Silva is that he's the best mixed martial artist in the world, which then creates this follow-up problem: finding someone with a similar skill set to bring in into training camp.
Jon Jones may be the only person capable of mimicking Silva, but he's not exactly available at the ready.
Here's what John Danaher, a BJJ black belt and one of Weidman's trainers, told Newsday about this issue during Weidman's camp:
“Anderson Silva, as a whole, I don’t think there’s many people on the planet who can mimic what he does," Danaher said. "But there are many people on the planet who can mimic some parts of what he does. There are people who can mimic his body type. There are people who can mimic his boxing. There are people who can mimic his kicking. There are people who can mimic his footwork. There are people who can mimic his top-position grappling, people who can mimic his bottom-position grappling."
“You can take a team of people and they create a composite Anderson Silva who can be understood overall. Chris can work with each of those people in that microcosm and then when it comes time to face Anderson, it won’t be such a surprise.”
