Ronaldo "Jacare"

Souza, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion, used the first round of his bout at Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery to flash some stand-up skills. He took Joey Villasenor by surprise with impressive striking rather than immediately trying to take the fight to the floor.

On the few occasions Souza had Villasenor in comprimising positions on his back, Villasenor managed to escape. As the fight progressed through the entire 15 minutes, you could see Villasenor gain more confidence and start striking effectively.

But the judges don't score rounds on apparent confidence. Souza won by unanimous decision. The judges scored it 30-27, 29-28, 29-28.

Souza used his superior ground game in the third round with several takedowns, but he could not turn any of them into an advantageous jiu-jitsu position.
