Knicks look forward to rematch with Grizzlies at MSG
The Knicks are apparently looking forward to the March 27 game against the Grizzlies and looking for some kind of payback.
Last night’s 105-95 Grizzlies' win was a physical contest that really had a playoff atmosphere.
“Hats off to the Grizzlies,” Rasheed Wallace said. “But one thing that we’re saying: they’ve got to come to the Garden.”
In the second quarter J.R. Smith elbowed Jerryd Bayless in the chest. Bayless retaliated by pushing Smith. During that wild second, Wallace was shouting at the Grizzlies’ bench and Carmelo Anthony screamed for a fan to sit down.
"I was coming off trying to get the ball," Smith said. "I don’t what he could have been mad at. Some small guys have little man’s complex. I don’t know, they’ve got to work that out.
Then the Knicks let themselves get taken out of the game in the third quarter as they got frustrated by some calls.
Carmelo Anthony, Wallace and Mike Woodson each were whistled for technicals during a 3:25 stretch of the third and Smith earned the flagrant foul.
"We definitely had to keep our heads in it," Wallace said. "There were some things going on out there that I guess everybody on our bench didn't appreciate, so we just tried to play through it and do what we could to get back in the game. We almost did. We still shouldn't have let the frustration affect the way that we executed."
Anthony was frustrated because he felt like the officials wouldn’t let him play against Marc Gasol, who is about five inches taller than the Knicks’ best player.
Anthony felt he wasn’t getting calls and Gasol was. Anthony spent the last 9:05 on the bench in the third quarter after picking up his fourth foul.
“It would have been fun if they would have let it go,” Anthony said of the Gasol match-up. “But things happen. We’ll see them in New York. We’ll be prepared for that.
When asked if he wanted the challenge of playing against Gasol again, Anthony’s reply was: “Oh without a doubt. Without a doubt. Absolutely.”
