NEWARK - An impressive number of fans filled the seats at the Prudential Center for the first bout of the night, a welterweight fight between Jersey boy Greg Soto (Belmar, N.J.) and Matthew Riddle.

From his back, Soto knocked Riddle out with a right kick to the face. However, Riddle had a knee on the ground, and UFC rules forbid head shots to a downed opponent. The move cost Soto a point on the scorecards.

Riddle could be seen saying "What happened?" after he woke up. Referee Kevin Peterson appeared to be ready to restart the fight until Riddle got his attention and said he couldn't fight anymore. Riddle appeared dazed even after doctors examined him.

Riddle (4-1) earned the victory by disqualification at the 1:30 mark of the third round.

That was about the only successful offense Soto (7-1) mounted the entire bout. Soto was the initiator to start the first round, but Riddle came on late and won the round with good striking and a late takedown. Riddle again controlled the second round with boring but effective ground control of Soto.

P.S. Props to Riddle for coming out to Warren G's "Regulate."
