UFC fighters to host gym grand opening in New Hyde Park

A quartet of former UFC champions will help open the new 24-hour UFC Gym in New Hyde Park on Saturday.

Those attending the grand opening will have the opportunity to meet retired former light heavyweight champions Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin, plus former lightweight champions B.J. Penn and Frankie Edgar.

Penn and Edgar will coach against each other on the next season of "The Ultimate Fighter" then complete their trilogy in the octagon. Edgar is 2-0 against Penn, including taking Penn's title from him at UFC 112 and defending it against him at UFC 118.

The event starts at 10 a.m. and includes demonstrations of UFC Fit, Muay Thai, kickboxing and more.

Liddell and Edgar will do their meet and greet at 11 a.m., with a fan Q&A at 2:30 p.m.

Griffin and Penn will do a fan Q&A at 11:30 a.m., then sign autographs at 2 p.m.

UFC Gym is located at 2020 Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park.
