There's a report out there on ye ol' Internet that UFC confirmed to Wrestling Observer that he will put together a live card on Spike to go up against Strikeforce on CBS on April 17.

If true, wow.

That's a big step from packaging past fights as a mode of counterprogramming, which incidentally, is one of my favorite things to study and analyze.

It seems pretty difficult to put together a show in six weeks, but we have a feeling UFC president Dana White has been thinking about it for a while. There's talk of a Matt Serra-Mike Swick fight, which would be a good stand-up battle until Serra can take it the floor and work his BJJ skills. Also rumor of a Wanderlei Silva-Yoshihiro Akiyama bout, but we're not sure if Silva would be ready that quick after his Feb. 20 bout against Michael Bisping.

Fedor Emelianenko not fighting on the Strikeforce card in Nashville certainly makes this a more plausible idea for UFC. But White has an extra incentive. Dan Henderson, a former UFC fighter until contract negotiations went awry after UFC 100, makes his Strikeforce debut that night. He'll fight Jake Shields for the middleweight title.

Can't wait to see the ratings press releases in my inbox on April 19. Should be a fun day.
