Rex: Money won't determine starting QB in 2013
We all know Mark Sanchez is owed a lot of money. But finances -- even $8.25 million in guaranteed cash -- won’t dictate who gets the most playing time next season, Rex Ryan said.
Both he and owner Woody Johnson deflected inquiries about the status of Sanchez or seldom-used backup quarterback Tim Tebow (“It’s way too early to say what the future is of any player,” said Ryan). But neither gave any indication that both quarterbacks will for sure be on the Jets roster next season.
Asked if its possible for the Jets to possess an “attack-style” offense with Sanchez as their signal-caller, Ryan said: “Again, you know what? I think first things first, I think our process obviously is in place, getting a new general manager. We’re getting a list together of offensive coordinator candidates right now and we just started that process today. And then obviously, we’ll see what happens.
"But let’s get the general manager and the offensive coordinator in place before we answer any questions specifically about players.”
Johnson later was asked about Tebow, whom he guaranteed would be a Jet for the remainder of his contract. But the owner wouldn't address the status of the popular backup QB.
