According to La Canfora, the Jets have signed RB Kahlil Bell...
It's obvious the Jets offense needs a lot of work.
Well, according to CBS's NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, the Jets are working out running backs today -- including Steve Slaton and Kahlil Bell. The Jets, who set out to reclaim their ground-and-pound identity in the offseason, currently rank 16th in the NFL in rushing yards per game (106.9).
A main reason for that is Shonn Greene, who is averaging 63 rushing yards per game.
That puts him 20th in the league among other running backs. Lingering injuries to Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight have also compounded the issue. Powell separated his shoulder during the Jets’ Week 6 win over the Colts and McKnight suffered a high ankle sprain a short time later.
Powell, who missed two games due to the shoulder injury, also suffered a concussion in Sunday’s loss to Seattle. On the flip side, McKnight returned from the ankle sprain and played against New England and Miami before the Jets’ bye week. But he was forced to leave the Dolphins game after aggravating his ankle injury and did not travel to Seattle for Sunday’s game.
Slaton, 26, has a history of injuries, but he's provides a lift when when healthy. The running back, who spent time in Houston and Miami in 2011, has 1,896 and 18 touchdowns in his career. But most of the yards came in his rookie campaign (2008) when he rushed for 1,282 yards for the Texans.
Bell, 25, has played just three NFL seasons, all with Chicago. For his career, he's averaging 4.5 yards per carry. But Bell played in just two games last year for the Bears before being waived on Oct. 15.
