In the ultimate game of semantics, Rex Ryan tried to downplay the Jets’ interest in dealing Darrelle Revis.

"I know for a fact that we're not actively trying to trade Darrelle Revis," the Jets coach told reporters at the AFC coaches breakfast in Phoenix Tuesday. “But if somebody calls, you listen.”

Rex said he thought the first report of a Revis trade -- which broke the night before new general manager John Idzik's introductory press conference -- was “made up” and “ridiculous.” But Ryan quickly added: “I'm not naive.”

Owner Woody Johnson downplayed the idea that he is unwilling to give Revis an extension beyond 2013, calling it "exaggerated" and "patently untrue."

"I think John is going to be looking at all these possibilities," he told reporters Monday in Phoenix. "If he believes the terms of an extension would be acceptable to the team and would make the team better, we would do it."

The Revis saga continues to drag on, with each passing day providing a new plot twist. The New York Post reported Tuesday that the Bucs are “losing patience” with the Jets over their inability to hammer out a deal involving the star cornerback.

The Tampa Bay Times reported Monday that a Revis trade likely won’t get done “for several more weeks” and the Bucs are willing to sign the three-time All-Pro corner to a long-term deal. The article also stated Bucs general manager Mark Dominik hasn't ruled out giving up his first-round pick in this year's NFL draft (13th overall) to acquire Revis, who is currently rehabbing from ACL surgery.
