Long Island boys win tennis gold at Empire Games

BINGHAMTON - Long Island's scholastic boys tennis team defeated New York City, 4-1, yesterday to finish 5-0 and win its first gold medal since 2003. Half Hollow Hills West's Nolan Gelman won, 6-2, 6-4, at first singles to help lead Long Island to a sweep of the three singles matches. Gelman finished the Games unbeaten and earned the first singles gold medal. The first doubles team of John Ilardi (East Islip) and Devin Ziccardi (St. John the Baptist) went 3-2 and earned the bronze.
