2004 ATHENS OLYMPICS

Result: Bronze medal

Key players: Allen Iverson (13.8 PPG), Tim Duncan (12.9 PPG, 9.1 PPG), Stephon Marbury (10.5 PPG)

From the onset, it was clear that 2004 was going to be an ugly Olympiad for the U.S. In the opening game of group play, the Americans, led by a mix of veterans (Duncan, Iverson) and neophytes (LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony), were crushed by Puerto Rico, 92-73, the most lopsided Olympic loss in U.S. history. Team USA finished just 3-2 in group play, and lost to Argentina, 89-81, in the semifinals. The Larry Brown-led team topped Lithuania, 104-96, in the bronze-medal game.
