Joe Girardi likes the extra wild card, but would prefer the wild card winners not have to face a sudden-death game to advance.

“I’ve said all along I think the first round between the wild card teams should be three games,” Girardi said. “I think you play too long for it to be a one-game playoff. But I understand why they’re doing it, there’s some time issues they have to deal with it. But I personally would like to see it as three games.”
