Yankees sign Kevin Youkilis to one-year, $12M deal
A formal archrival is now in pinstripes.
The Yankees and former Boston Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis have reached an agreement on a one-year, $12 million deal, pending a physical, Newsday's Marc Carig has learned.
Ichiro Suzuki is now expected to sign with the Yankees soon, Carig reported.
Youkilis will replace the injured Alex Rodriguez, who will be out four to six months after surgery on his left hip in January, at third base.
The "Greek God of Walks" had a down year in 2012. He hit only .233 with a .315 on-base percentage in 42 games with the Red Sox last season before being traded to the Chicago White Sox. He hit .236 and got his on-base percentage up to .346 over his final 80 games with the White Sox.
More to come.
