Robinson Cano isn’t the only Yankee the team should worry about locking up to a long term extension. Brett Gardner might be the best value in the Major Leagues. For now.

Gardner, a .266 lifetime hitter with just 15 career home runs, has sneaky – but enormous – worth. From an offensive perspective, his .355 career on-base percentage and 81 percent success rate when stealing bases (127-for-167)...

Baseball super-agent Scott Boras has been dumped by Yankee headliners before. But one of those former clients, Alex Rodriguez, didn’t stop to talk to reporters after visiting fellow players during batting practice Wednesday. And another, Mark Teixeira, made a point of saying how different the landscape is for potential free agents since Boras negotiated his deal with the Yankees in 2009.

Still 160 games to go, so the Yankee faithful likely have not lost their religion just yet. But there couldn’t have been the announced 40,216 fans (that’s a ticket-sold figure) in the seats at the start of Tuesday night’s 7-4 loss to Boston, any more than it was 92 degrees for the first pitch.

The 92 degrees was a little joke, announced to the bundled crowd of reporters in the open press box,...

It hasn't been a good start for Yankees starting pitchers so far.

Two days after the Boston Red Sox roughed up CC Sabathia on Opening Day, Hiroki Kuroda was forced to leave Wednedsay night's game in the top of the second inning with an apparent hand injury.

With the Red Sox ahead 1-0, Kuroda took a Shane Victorino line drive off of his right hand three pitches into the second inning....

Alex Rodriguez, who chose not to be introduced Opening Day, appeared on the field during BP, chatting with players and coaches from both teams on Wednesday.

One game does not a baseball season make. But it does create outrageously small sample sizes, high anxiety for some fans and easy-to-mathematical comparisons and equations.

So here's one for you: a look at the salaries for the Yankees' starting lineups on Opening Day in 2013 and 2012.

What does it prove? Nothing, really, seeing how they lost both of those games and are 1-4 on Opening...
