Animal activists cry foul following mass geese euthanasia

YONKERS - Animal activists are crying foul this evening after learning that hundreds of Canada Geese populating the Sprain Lake Golf Course were rounded up and killed.Activists say officials need to discuss alternatives to handling the geese overpopulation problem, but county officials say that's impractical.Deputy Parks Commissioner Peter Tartaglia says the daily chore of removing 500 pounds of feces from the golf course has been eliminated since the geese were killed. He says they may use the same solution in the future. But animal activists say they will try and prevent future slaughter by lobbying local politicians. In the meantime, a food processing plant upstate is working on turning the meat into goose burgers to be dished out to local food pantries.WC Parks Dept. guts gross geese residue
