As it has been for decades, the French Riviera is one of the most popular areas on Earth – home to destination locations like Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Nice and the entire nation of Monaco. Running along the Mediterranean Sea, artists, celebrities and the well-to-do arrive and invest their style year-in and year-out, forever tying the region into the history of modern global culture.

One aspect of the eternal draw to the Riviera connects back to the 1950s, as it was during that decade that the film “And God Created Woman” took the world by storm. Buoyed by the allure of its sexy star Bridget Bardot, the movie turned Saint-Tropez into a must-stop for the world’s jet-setters, filling the beaches there with swarms of visitors decked out in high fashion (or very little clothing at all).

The idea of combining chic looks and the shoreline should sound familiar to those who frequent the Hamptons every summer, but Navy Beach at 16 Navy Rd. in Montauk is bonding the mystique of the classic Riviera with the current East End scene in order to inspire their upcoming event: the “Riviera Le Swimsuit Beach and Boat Party.”

Starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, it runs until sunset and is open to both those who will commute by car and boaters alike (with mooring available in Fort Pond Bay). Entertainment includes live music from reggae musician Winston Irie and beats from DJ Sammy -- but on this occasion guests can also add “shopping” to their list of fun stuff to do, as clothing company Calypso St. Barth will host a pop-up store, with accessories and beachwear available for purchase.

Attendees can also dine off both the lunch and dinner menus, but if a drink is all that’s needed, the bar will be featuring a list of Côte d'Azur-inspired cocktails – such as “The Monaco” (Peroni lager, Sprite, grenadine) and the “Lillet Blanc Apéritif “ (Lillet Blanc spirit, soda, orange slice). Reservations can be made via opentable.com or at navybeach.com or by calling 631-668-6868, with special daybeds on the beach also available for RSVP ($300). Just remember: this is a themed bash, so all are asked to don 1950s-style bathing gear when attending—and it might just pay off, as there will be a ‘50s swimsuit contest, with the top choice winning a Navy Beach dinner gift certificate for two featuring a chef’s tasting menu and a bottle of champagne to boot.
