Life on Long Island
Three chances to dance tonight
For most, Monday is the “day back” – back to school, back to work, back to business so there are not usually a lot of parties set for Monday nights, with most nightclubs, bars and lounges aware that on the whole a lot of people just don’t feel like dancing at the start of a new workweek. However, for those among us who feel that tonight (Monday, July 30) is as good as any other evening for getting loose to the beat, here are three good dance chances:
The “Cruel Summer” party at The Leaky Lifeboat: 3603 Merrick Rd., Seaford
With a down-to-earth, hip personality, Leaky has maintained a steady-to-heavy attendance ever since opening in February of 2011. Currently, Monday nights there have been host to this easygoing party where '80s tunes dominate the playlist, and the occasional guest is caught wearing Wayfarer sunglasses to match the theme. Event starts at 9 p.m.; no cover.
Sayville selector Loki has demonstrated excellent skills with house music, but when he works an event his choices are always appropriate, open-minded and often movement-inspiring. He’ll be joined by DJ Danja for a night of club music and drink specials. Bash starts at 9 p.m.; no cover.
Melange’s career ascent has been tremendous; starting off as a locally-based DJ, he has since graduated to spinning all over the East Coast and even across the ocean in Europe. However, this graduate of Brentwood High School is back on the Island and appearing tonight for Four’s long-running Monday weekly party, and will work alongside resident Mark J in bringing about a beat-powered evening beginning sometime after 8 p.m. Call ahead for dinner reservations or table service; could be a possible cover charge (think $10-ish).
