Several legendary pro wrestlers from the past four decades will gather Sunday in New Jersey to pay tribute to Scott Epstein, the longtime wrestling publicist from Oceanside who died in a car accident in December.
The Scott Epstein Memorial Event, promoted by Pro Wrestling Syndicate, will be held at the Boys and Girls Club at 490 Midland Avenue in Garfield, N.J.
The show includes an 11 a.m. autograph signing featuring several of Epstein’s longtime friends and colleagues, including former WWE heavyweight champion Ivan Koloff and Rocky Johnson, the former tag team champ and father of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The show begins at noon.
The event is free, but organizers are asking for donations of $20, which will go to Epstein’s family, including his wife Ash.
Epstein died in the early morning hours of Dec. 27, when his car crashed into a tree on Waverly Avenue in East Rockaway, according to police.
Veteran wrestling journalist Bill Apter will host the event, which he said would have been exactly the kind of show Epstein, his friend and colleague, loved to frequent.
“Scott would have been booking people in there left and right, making deals, making sure that everybody got paid, that everybody was happy and that it was another successful independent wrestling show,” said Apter, of 1Wrestling.com. “I think of him at every one of these events that I go to.”
