Thoughts on Batista, Undertaker's hair, Wrestlemania, John Cena and The Rock
Just under 24 hours before the opening bell at Wrestlemania 28. Here are some lingering thoughts going into the big show.
Rock vs. John Cena
I don’t have any doubts that Cena will go over. The real question is do Rock and Cena have a cordial handshake following the match? Seth Mates posed this question in his prediction for the match. The handshake may not seem like a big deal to fans, however, the handshake is a big symbol of The Rock saying ‘this is your guy now.’ Hogan and Rock shared the handshake following their match at Wrestlemania 18 and it was a way to bring closure to their epic feud. That’s what the handshake is: closure to one of the greatest builds to a match in the history of pro wrestling.
Undertaker’s bald head
The WWE has kept ‘Taker’s hood on for every one of his appearances leading up to Wrestlemania. Some photos have surfaced on Twitter of what he looks like and let me tell you, it’s a totally different look for the Dead Man. He sported a short haircut in the early 2000s, but his gimmick was totally different then. Seeing Undertaker with short hair in his Dead Man attire is going to look weird.
The crowd reaction is going to be very interesting to watch when he lifts that hood after his nine-minute walk to the ring. Remember, the WWE showed a vignette early on in this feud of Undertaker cutting his hair off, but since then there has been no mention of that ever again on WWE television. The WWE tried to work his bald head into the storyline early on and then they dropped it.
Will Batista, Brock Lesnar appear?
I did a whole post in this earlier this afternoon. I reiterate, if one appears don’t bank on the second guy also appearing. Wrestlemania has never been a show of big returns. If this was the Royal Rumble, then I would think there’s a good chance of both guys showing up.
I have seen various reports that Lesnar and the WWE are still far apart from a deal. In the end, I doubt anyone truly knows what’s going on behind closed doors. I think it could be more likely that Batista appears. It’s been confirmed that he has an appearance in the Miami area tomorrow.
What could Batista’s role be?
It’s more of a process of elimination. He was a huge star in the WWE and if he’s going to get involved it’s going to be in one of the main events. He had a long rivalry with both Undertaker and Triple H over the years. Undertaker is most likely gone after ‘Mania, so Triple H might be Batista’s target. I see Chris Jericho and CM Punk feuding after Wrestlemania, so they’re both out of the question. How about Cena? Cena has nothing to do after Wrestlemania as The Rock sets his sights back on Hollywood. I don’t want Batista to interfere in the Rock-Cena match, but anything can happen after the match.
Batista’s last match in the WWE was a loss in a “I Quit Match” against Cena. Batista said in many interviews that he left the WWE because he didn’t like where the company was going? Obviously Batista was not a fan of the PG era. Who’s the face of the PG era? Exactly.
Jim Ross calling matches?
I read in many reports that Undertaker and Triple H want Jim Ross to call their match. Triple H pretty much runs the show backstage and Undertaker has a tremendous about of pull and whatever those guys want, they pretty much can get. The question is how does “Good Ole’ JR” get to the announcing table? Well, if Team Teddy is victorious,
I can see Teddy Long removing Michael Cole in his first official act as general manager of Raw and Smackdown. Cole announced last week that he is the official commentator of Team Johnny, so the seeds have already been planted. By the way, if JR appears, don’t be shocked if he’s sporting some facial hair.
