Wrestling on LI this weekend, local wrestling personalities making appearances

Hi all. Sorry for the lack of posts in recent weeks, as Anthony and I have been quite busy in our day jobs here at Newsday. This remains a labor of love for both of us, and sometimes the labor of money-to-pay-for-my-house takes precedence.

But I wanted to be sure to plug a some local events coming up being organized by some friends of the Steel Cage.

. Brian Shields, co author of the WWE Encyclopedia has added another Long Island stop to his book tour. This Saturday, October 23m he'll be appearing at the Mineola Public Libraryat 195 Marcellus Road starting at 1:30 p.m. (doors open at 1.)
Brian, who lives here on the Island, gives a very thorough presentation of the history of WWE, from Buddy Rogers becoming the first WWE champ nearly 50 years ago to the modern era. Kids will enjoy hearing stories about Brian's interactions with various WWE Superstars, and older fans will appreciate the informative history lesson thatBrian offers.
It's a fun, free event and highly recommended for all fans of wrestling. For tickets, contact Meredith Minkoffat (516) 746-8488 or childrensmineola@nassaulibrary.org. You can also check out Brian's site at www.mightypenandsword.com

. I also wanted to mention that local independent wrestler and actor Will “Brimstone” Kaye’s comic book, “Brimstone and the Borderhounds” will be released on October 31st. Brim will be signing the comic books at a special pre-launch event at the Borders book store in Westbury at 1260 Old Country Road on Saturday October 30  from 2 to 7 p.m. Local wrestling fans may have caught Brim over the years competing for the New York Wrestling Connection, Victory Pro Wrestling or Pro Wrestling Revolution. He’s also made appearances on TNA Impact. I hope you’ll support Brim in his latest venture. You can pre-order his comic book, which is being published by Hound Comics, here.

. Speaking of NYWC, LI’s premiere independent wrestling promotion is running another show Saturday night at the Elks Lodge at 1141 Route 112 in Port Jefferson. “Rampage on 112” is headlined by a tag team match pitting "Yours Truly" Alex Reynolds & King Mega against NYWC Champion "Maverick" Tony Nese & Maxwell Belvedere. TNA newcomer Robbie E (longtime Northeast indie standout Rob Eckos) is also on the show. More info is available at nywcwrestling.com.
