The Steel Cage
After a strong final week of hype, especially here in the NY Metro area, WrestleMania 29 is set to take the stage Sunday night at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium. With three huge matches anchoring the card, and some intriguing mid-card bouts, expectations are high for the event.
Here's my preview and predictions for the big show:
Main Event: WWE Champion The Rock vs. John Cena

William Moody, who, as the macabre Paul Bearer helped elevate The Undertaker into becoming the most successful gimmick performer in wrestling history, has died, according to WWE.
Moody, who personified pro wrestling’s over-the-top theatrics like few others, was 58 years old.
As Percy Pringle, Moody began making a name for himself as a loathsome wrestling manager during the 1980s in various...Read more »
I gave myself nearly a week to simmer about this one.
After all, there are lots of ways to book a wrestling show, and if I had the corner market on creative team omniscience, I might actually be on the creative team.
But sometimes you know you're right, and I am on this one: Triple H should have beaten The Undertaker Sunday at WrestleMania XXVIII, and John Cena should have beaten The...Read more »
WWE is going out of its way to bill this year’s WrestleMania main event as the biggest match in wrestling history. Considering the legacies of the Rock and John Cena—and the fact that the Rock has not competed in a singles match in nine years, calling the bout “epic” is not an understatement.
But Cena-Rock has some stiff competition for the title of “biggest” WrestleMania match ever. Here’s...Read more »
Brock Lesnar announced his retirement last night following a loss to Alistair Overeem at UFC 141. Thus, the rumors are beginning to fly that a return to the WWE could happen in 2012.
From all indications, the WWE and their fans would welcome Lesnar back with open arms. He was the company’s biggest star before he abruptly left in 2004 to pursue a career in the NFL. The former WWE champion didn’t...Read more »
Here are some extras quotes from Mich Foley on his former WWE colleagues:
Foley on WWE Champion John Cena:
"He treats everyone with respect from the big stars to the young guys and has a great sense of humor."
Foley on rumors of the reports of Undertaker's retirement:
"He's had some of his best matches later on in his career. That's unheard of."
"I...Read more »
Edge’s retirement on Raw last night was surreal. As he delivered a heartfelt speech about his long career I kept waiting for Alberto Del Rio to make his way down the ramp and interrupt Edge. Maybe a brawl would start and further their rivalry heading into their ladder match at Extreme Rules in three weeks.
Unfortunately for the fans, Del Rio never came out. Edge will forfeit the title...Read more »
The WWE Universe will finally get the dream match they had hoped for: The Rock vs. John Cena. The Attitude Era vs. the PG Era.
It will happen April 1, 2012 at Wrestlemania 28 in Miami, Florida.
You read it right, The Rock and Cena will have their historic one-on-one match next year at ‘Mania in the Rock’s hometown. Never has a match been booked almost a year in advance. It’s...Read more »
I may not have called all the winners and losers correctly, but in some ways, my WrestleMania predictions were as accurate as anyone’s. I expected WrestleMania XXVII to be high on spectacle, and low on match quality. And, unfortunately, I was quite right.
This was one of the most overbooked WrestleManias I can recall. At every turn, WWE writers tried to create a “WrestleMania”...Read more »
WWE CHAMPIONSHIP THE MIZ (C) DEFEATED JOHN CENA
I really liked Miz’s hype video before the match. It was his path to the WWE title mixed with other great moments by former WWE champions. Cena’s entrance was way over the top. It involved a choir and a voice over by DMX (I think). Need I say more? This was a tale of two matches. The first match ended in a count-out with Miz retaining...Read more »
