The Steel Cage
After a strong final week of hype, especially here in the NY Metro area, WrestleMania 29 is set to take the stage Sunday night at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium. With three huge matches anchoring the card, and some intriguing mid-card bouts, expectations are high for the event.
Here's my preview and predictions for the big show:
Main Event: WWE Champion The Rock vs. John Cena

WWE Champion Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and his WrestleMania XXIX opponent, John Cena, met at a Radio City Music Hall press conference Thursday, just three days before they will face off for the title at MetLife Stadium.
Real-life overtones are all over this main event, as well as the matchup between CM Punk and the Undertaker.
Cena has been critical of The Rock in the past...Read more »
WWE delivered the huge news today that it will be inducting Bruno Sammartino into the company’s Hall of Fame this April, apparently ending--at least for one night--a bitter rivalry that stretched over a quarter century.
There had been indications in recent weeks that WWE had made some progress in mending fences with Sammartino, who left the company in the mid-1980s after a storied run that...Read more »
The WWE announced today that WrestleMania XXVIII set a new pay-per-view purchase record, with 1.3 million homes worldwide buying the show.
The number makes the show a huge success for the WWE, and also indicates that the experiment of building toward the Rock vs. John Cena match for a full year was well worth it.
Naysayers may wonder if the buy rate could have been even better had some...Read more »
I gave myself nearly a week to simmer about this one.
After all, there are lots of ways to book a wrestling show, and if I had the corner market on creative team omniscience, I might actually be on the creative team.
But sometimes you know you're right, and I am on this one: Triple H should have beaten The Undertaker Sunday at WrestleMania XXVIII, and John Cena should have beaten The...Read more »
Brock Lesanr has officially signed a one-year deal with the WWE and is obligated to make at least two appearances a month, according to PWInsider.com.
He will make more appearances as Wrestlemania 29 nears on April 7, 2013. Wrestlemania 29 will take place at MetLife Stadium.
The WWE is allowed to negotiate for more appearances, but Lesnar has to approve, the site reported. That means...Read more »
Brock Lesnar’s return to the WWE after eight years pushed everything else to the side on Raw last night. That says a lot about Lesnar because it was one of the best Raws in recent memory.
The Miami crowd was so good last night that the WWE should have them at every televised event. The one thing you may have noticed is how over Daniel Bryan was with the fans in attendance. Fans chanted Bryan’s...Read more »
Here comes the pain! Again.
Brock Lesnar made his return to the WWE on Raw tonight and delivered an F-5 to John Cena completely changing the landscape of the WWE for the foreseeable future.
Rumors were running wild all weekend that the former WWE Champion turned MMA fighter was set to return to the company that made him famous. Those rumors were put on hold as Lesnar was nowhere to be...Read more »
So where was former WWE Champion Dave Batista yesterday? He was rumored to make an appearance at Wrestlemania but neither he nor Brock Lesnar showed up. Lesnar was spotted in Miami to reportedly finish negotiating a contract with the WWE.
As for Batista, he was competing in the Nautica South Beach Triathlon, according to a press release we received earlier today from a gentlemen who handled...Read more »
WWE delivered a very good edition of WrestleMania last night that met or exceeded expectations for most of the night’s big matches, without too many dumbfounding booking decisions or comedy segments that took away from what worked on the show.
Any good fight promoter—whether in pro wrestling, boxing or mixed martial arts—will tell you that it’s all about the main event. A bad main event will...Read more »
