The Cosmos fell for the first time this season, a 3-0 decision, Saturday night to the Carolina RailHawks in Cary, N.C.

Trailing 1-0 in the 28th minute the Cosmos (1-1-1) had a defensive lapse and Brian Shriver scored his second goal of the game. He beat keeper Kyle Reynish at the of the box and directed the ball into an empty Cosmos net.

Joseph Nane of the Cosmos and Carolina's Austin Da Luz were both shown their second yellow cards of the match in a three-minute span before halftime, leaving both clubs with 10 players.

In the second half, the Cosmos brought in fresh legs with Danny Szetela and Roversio replacing Alessandro Noselli and Korey Veeder, though the New York squad was unable to put any shots past Railhawks goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald despite generating more chances than Carolina.

The Cosmos return home next Saturday night to host the San Antonio Scorpions at 7 p.m.
