Yahoo! Sports has spoken to sources claiming that Manchester City of the English Premier League has "significant interest" in acquiring U.S. midfielder Landon Donovan from the L.A. Galaxy.

Donovan and the United States bowed out of the World Cup Saturday in a 2-1 extra time loss to Ghana. Donovan provided the equalizer with a second-half penalty kick, but Ghana advanced to the quaterfinals with a goal by Asamoah Gyan three minutes into extra time. For both players, it was their third goal of the tournament.

Donovan started the tournament slow, but finished with a flurry. His goal against Slovenia ignited the team's second-half comeback. He then saved the U.S. from elimination in its final group stage game against Algeria with a goal in the 91st minute.

If there's any time Donovan should jump to Europe, it's now. At 28, Donovan still has a handful of years left in his prime. After his successful stint with Everton earlier this year, the move -- or any move to a top flight team -- makes sense.
