Real Salt Lake forward and USMNT training camp invitee Robbie Findley finally netted his first goal of the MLS season in a 3-1 win over the Houston Dynamo last night.

Findley's goal -- a header -- came in the third minute and ended a seven-game scoring drought to start the season. He also missed prime chances at two more goals on breakaways. The speedy striker scored 15 goals in 22 games for Real last season.

When Charlie Davies was left off the training camp roster, Findley found himself competiting for a spot after nearly playing his way off the team during a series of international friendlies earlier in the year. He faces some stiff competition, with Herculez Gomez, Edson Buddle and Brian Ching all vying for a trip to South Africa.

Unless Findley catches fire at camp, he'll likely stay home. But, he's the quickest striker on the roster, so with Davies out, head coach Bob Bradley may feel the need for some speed off the bench. Stay tuned.

Also of note, Ching made his first appearance for Houston since April 1, when he injured his hamstring. He came into the game as a sub in the 62nd minute but did not score.

“My lungs were a little bit better than I thought they’d be, so I’m ready,” Ching said. “I felt good out there. I’m just going to have to work on my fitness for a couple of weeks to get where I want to be and hopefully get a little bit sharper.”
