Cablevision: We have a channel open for tennis network
The standoff between Cablevision and Tennis Channel took another turn Saturday when the channel carried most of the five-set match in which John Isner upset Andy Roddick.
That meant it was not seen on TV by Cablevision customers because the channel has not made its signal available despite what Cablevision insists is a contractual obligation to do so. (The Roddick-Isner match was available on USOpen.org.)
"We have had a channel open and ready since before the U.S. Open, but unfortunately, the Tennis Channel has continued to withhold their programming, because they are angry about being held to the terms of a contract they willingly entered into," Cablevision, which owns Newsday, said in a statement, referring to a deal with the National Cable Television Cooperative, which Cablevision recently joined.
"We think it was a bad decision by the leadership of the Tennis Channel."
Tennis Channel has cited Cablevision's failure to provide 30 days' notice after signing on with the NCTC for thus far not making its signal available to Cablevision customers.
