Charlie Brown whiffs again

What with the 40th anniversary showing of "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving’’ coming soon (Thanksgiving night on ABC), naturally I got to wondering when Lucy first pulled a holder no-no by yanking away the football from Charlie Brown.

Turns out it wasn’t Lucy at all, but rather Violet who first messed up Chuck, in the comic strip of Nov. 14, 1951, per Lucy first did the deed a year later, on Nov. 16, 1952.

Of course, the Thanksgiving special was not the first time young Mr. Brown was victimized on TV. Just last night he took a football tumble on “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,’’ as he has been doing since Oct. 27, 1966.
