Rachel Nichols jumps from ESPN to CNN
Those of us of a certain age recall an era when CNN’s nightly sports roundup was as popular, if not more so, than ESPN’s “SportsCenter.’’ No, really. It’s so. But in recent decades CNN has moved away from sports while ESPN has, well, taken over the world.
Now comes word the venerable news network will dip its toe back into the sports waters with a new weekend show beginning later this year and anchored by Rachel Nichols, an ESPN reporter for nine years and before that one of my football beat confreres, at the Washington Post.
The show “will focus on the most interesting stories and personalities in the world of sports,’’ CNN said in a non-enlightening news release.
Nichols also will report for Turner Sports, beginning with this week’s Super Bowl in New Orleans.
