Noah Murphy visits Tower of Babble

Noah 2014 Movie Review. Starring Russell Crowe, Emma

My father was born 94 years ago Saturday, so presumably he would have understood and perhaps agreed with the critics of Daniel Murphy’s brief paternity leave from the Mets this week.

In fairness, though, he died in 1967, so he missed a half-century of cultural evolution on this topic. The rest of us should know better by now.

But all seems fair in the worlds of social media and talk...

Boomer Esiason apologized - early and often - on his WFAN show Friday morning for comments he made two days earlier regarding Daniel Murphy's paternity leave from the Mets.

Esiason was not the only critic of paternity leave for ballplayers on sports talk radio - and among fans on social media - but nothing in the debate caused as much controversy as his suggestion that if it were him he would...

Mike Francesa opened his WFAN radio show Thursday by discussing . . . what else? Daniel Murphy and his recently arrived bundle of joy.

"Little did I know I was going to start a national dialogue [Wednesday]," Francesa said after both he and WFAN's morning show were hit with a barrage of criticism after commenting on the delicate matter of paternity leave.

"I cannot believe how erroneous...

The hosts of WFAN’s morning and afternoon shows rarely see eye to eye but on Wednesday both weighed in with similar takes on the subject of Daniel Murphy’s paternity leave from the Mets.

Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton began the discussion in the morning, with Esiason offering a particularly blunt opinion that took the matter a big step beyond the others.

“That’s not me,’’ he said. “I...

Yankees, Mets radio experiences change and familiarity

(Credit: Getty)

Sure, there has been a seismic change in local baseball radio with the Yankees moving from WCBS to WFAN and the Mets from WFAN (after 27 years) to WOR.

But the announcers remain the same – John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman on the Yankees, Howie Rose and Josh Lewin on the Mets.

For how long, though? Sterling, Waldman and Lewin all are believed to have one-year deals, so 2015 could be another...

Neil Best here on Thursday, updating, correcting and clarifying the item below that I posted Tuesday.

While it's true that WOR's Mets broadcasts are set to appear on WLIR (107.1 FM) the next two seasons, there is no agreement in place regarding the other four (less important) frequencies mentioned in my original story.

Actually none of it is official yet, but the WLIR part should be...

The Islanders are beginning their post-Olympic schedule with a flurry of home games - Thursday night, followed by afternoon tilts Saturday and Sunday.

Good thing MSG Plus play-by-play man Howie Rose has Friday to chillax and recharge!

Oh, wait . . . no.

Under normal circumstances that is surely what Rose would have done, passing up the Mets' spring opener against the Nationals...

(Credit: Handout)

The Mets and Clear Channel Media, their new radio partner, announced Thursday that Howie Rose and Josh Lewin will move with the team from WFAN to WOR for the 2014 season.

The news was expected, but earlier in the offseason Clear Channel had considered former players to replace Lewin before settling on having him back.

Rose will begin his 19th season calling Mets games and Lewin his third....
