Rockville Centre resident and defender-midfielder Crystal Dunn was chosen by the Washington Spirit as the No. 1 overall selection in the National Women's Soccer League college draft in Philadelphia.

Dunn, a member of the U.S. National Team, was a four-time All-America selection from the University of North Carolina and the 2013 Hermann Trophy winner.

Georgetown defender Emily Menges of Garden City was taken in the third round by the Portland Thorns as she was reunited with her Albertson Fury youth coach, Paul Riley.
