Spotlight on Maria Regina (2008)

Travel deals

During the Spring of 2008, Maria Regina School's third grade students collected $440 for Heifer International's Read to Feed program. The school is located in Seaford. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation matched the third graders' gift to bring the total up to $880. The money will be used to purchase seven pregnant goats and two flocks of chickens for poor families around the world. Each gift will provide a sustainable source of food for the family and extra milk and eggs which may be sold or traded for other food. Each basket of eggs or quart of milk translates into money for school, medical care, and improved living conditions. Each family that receives a gift of livestock will pass the offspring of their gift animal onto another family in their community so poor families for generations to come will be helped. The project was lead by the third grade teachers, Miss Rosemary Meehan and Miss Kerri Breen.
