Spotlight on Samantha (2008)
Samantha is extremely passionate about the environment and helping her community. After reading an article in one of her magazines, she decided that she wanted to start an Environmental Club at her school that would help to educate her friends and their families about the importance of living a greener life. She approached her Principal and she thought it was a great idea. We are in the process of setting up the first committee dedicated to the environment at our school. Samantha is the official 2nd Grade Honorary Co-Chair and she has been active in creating flyers, asking for donations from local businesses and brainstorming about what we will do in the future. Samantha just got a tree donated by a local nursery and we plan to have a Tree Planting Ceremony that will represent our school's committment to the environment and being Greener Than Yesterday. Samantha felt very strongly that the committee should involve the kids, in the Fall, we will ask for two student representatives from each class to attend meetings and then pass information along to their classes about our plans and how they all can participate. Samantha is also a Brownie and participates in many activities that expand her knowledge about the community and working with a team. She sets a great example for her peers by picking up trash and calling attention to ways that we can live greener on a daily basis. She has accomplished something spectacular by starting this committee and this is just one of the reasons that she should be put in the Spotlight.
