With free Slurpee day at 7-Eleven barely in the rearview mirror, we turn our attentions to yet another thirst-quenching giveaway. On Friday from noon to 3 p.m., Starbucks stores will be offering complimentary 12-ounce Refreshers.
The iced beverage, which debuted at Starbucks Monday, comes in two flavors -- very berry hibiscus and cool lime -- and gives drinkers a jolt from green coffee extract. It's a coffee drink that doesn't taste like coffee thanks to the added fruit juice.
The caffeine content isn't high, at 30 to 40 milligrams of caffeine for the 12-ounce "tall" size. A Starbucks coffee in the same size has around 260 milligrams of caffeine. Calorie-wise, the very berry hibiscus clocks in at 60 calories, cool lime at 40.
In addition to these poured-to-order Refreshers, the line includes VIA Refreshers, packs that you add to water, and the ready-to-drink canned Refreshers, which you'll find at Starbucks as well as some convenience stores.
