A 45-year-old Stony Point man pleaded not guilty in Haverstraw Justice Court on Monday to charges of driving while intoxicated and aggravated vehicular assault, both felonies, in connection with a Friday collision that sent a Highland Falls woman to a hospital, police said.
Stony Point police said Michael Coyle was driving drunk when his vehicle crossed into the northbound lane of Route 9W, striking head-on a 2012 Hyundai driven by 48-year-old Alysoun Sherwood.
Sherwood initially was transported to Nyack Hospital but later was transferred to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where she was in serious but stable condition Monday afternoon, according to police.
After his court appearance, Coyle, who has a previous DWI conviction, was remanded to Rockland County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail, police said.
Coyle, who was treated at Nyack Hospital for injuries from the collision, also was charged with reckless driving and other traffic infractions, police said.
He was scheduled to return to court Wednesday.
Stony Point police were assisted at the accident scene by the Rockland County Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the New York State Palisades Interstate Parkway police, Rockland Paramedics, the Stony Point Fire Department and the Stony Point Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Attempts to reach a legal representative for Coyle were unsuccessful.
