Students rush to take GED exam before it’s replaced in January
THE BRONX - Many students say they're now scrambling to complete all sections of the current GED before it is replaced with a new exam in January.
Echo Shumaker-Pruitt, co-executive director of the High Bridge Community Life Center, says 200 students have applied to take the GED in August alone. She says her test center is now to full capacity.
Some students worry this go-around is their last chance to get a high school equivalency diploma, but Shumaker-Pruitt says test centers like hers will continue to offer prep classes and practice tests for the new test.
Test facilitators tell News 12 New York City's Department of Education has just added more testing dates for anyone who needs to take the current GED exam.
