AIRMONT - The Village of Suffern is offering police services to the Village of Airmont, saying the deal could save both villages money.
Airmont currently pays the Town of Ramapo $4 million a year for its police. Suffern Mayor Trish Abato says her village could provide double to triple their current coverage for less money. Abato is proposing Suffern provide Airmont 10 to 13 officers for $1 million, as opposed to $4 million for one officer.
Airmont Mayor Veronica Boesch says the deal must be studied very carefully before anything is agreed upon. State law would also have to be changed, as villages can only contract with a town for police services.
Suffern's Village Board passed a resolution, saying the village would consider the proposal.
