Community description: Real estate agents cite community spirit and a highly regarded school district as attributes. The hamlet also has the Syosset Chamber of Commerce; Residents for a More Beautiful Syosset, which often conduct events; and many eateries, houses of worship and professional businesses.

Condos: $500,000s- $900,000s

Apartment rentals: No multiunit housing

New construction: A development of 10 luxury four-bedroom Colonials, starting at $925,000, is being built on a cul-de-sac on Corin Court. Some of the houses have sold for more than $1 million, says Michele Glassberg of Shawn Elliott Luxury Homes in Woodbury. Only one house is left for sale.

Shopping: There's no shortage of retailers, including a Mega Marshalls store on Jericho Turnpike. King Kullen also is on this busy thoroughfare. Jackson Avenue in north Syosset, near the train station, is another popular destination.

Attractions: The town-operated Syosset-Woodbury Community Park in Woodbury offers swimming pools, an ice rink, playground, sporting grounds and picnic areas. Stillwell Woods Park, within the Stillwell Woods Preserve, which has hiking and biking trials, has playing fields, including a new baseball field.
