A test explosion Friday morning will rattle the area around the Tappan Zee Bridge, officials say.
The one-time detonation to test soil stability in the Hudson River bed is scheduled to take place between 10 a.m. and noon, the New York State Thruway Authority announced.
The blast, part of the initial work for a Tappan Zee Bridge replacement, is designed to create a vibration that will provide information on the area below the river channel.
Workers on the Rockland County shore will set off the blast.
Bridge traffic will be unaffected, but boat traffic on the river will be halted within 500 feet of the test area, the Authority said.
