Meeting examines Savage's voting past

The Savage Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. May 19 in the F&M Center, 9032 Baltimore St., Savage. Those who attend should use the side entrance off Foundry Street.
The topic will be "Following Savage's History in Voting," presented by Donna Thewes, a member of the Howard County Board of Elections.
Admission is free. Everyone is welcome.
The society's calendars from 2002 through 2008 and other historical items, and memberships will be available from 6:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

The event, which does not require registration, is for youth ages 11 to 17. Registration is not required.
Auditions for the Teen Idol Contest, a singing contest reminiscent of the television program American Idol, will be held June 24 and 25. The final competition is planned for June 26.

Aspiring authors // Writers are invited to share their work with other aspiring authors for mutual support and feedback at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Savage branch library, 9525 Durness Lane. Registration is not required.
Help needed // The Patuxent Research Refuge invites the community to participate in "Weed Warriors," a day when volunteers of all ages pull non-native invasive plants at the refuge, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Participants should bring gloves, water and hand tools, if they are available.
• A "Bird Walk" for all ages, scheduled from 8:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, will guide participants to search for birds in several refuge habitats. Field guides and binoculars are recommended.

Sellers sought // Reservoir High School, 1550 Scaggsville Road, Fulton, is planning a yard sale, filling three adjoining school lots, and is seeking vendors and sellers. Advertising will be provided.
