The University of South Florida in Tampa is one Florida's 11 public universities. It was founded in 1956 and is ranked ninth largest in the nation based on enrollment. It also operates campuses in St. Petersburg, Lakeland and Sarasota-Manatee. The school offers more than 200 degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level. It receives more than $300 million annually in research contracts and grants, which contributes to its placement in the top tier of public research universities as determined by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
