Matt Groening created parents Homer and Marge plus offspring Bart (rebellious, irreverent), Lisa (brainy, ethical) and baby Maggie (pacified, off-balance) for animated breaks within Fox¿s ¿The Tracey Ullman Show.¿ In 1989, the characters were spun off into a half-hour comedy for Fox.
